It's not going to cruise the Beatport charts if your giving it away for free. Have a word with yourself.

the people who visit this blog represent a microfraction of Beatport's downloads. Have a think.

"the people who visit this blog represent a microfraction of Beatport's downloads"

And that makes it ok? Using that logic perhaps we should let thief's free from prison because they only robbed a couple of houses which is only a fraction of the houses in the world?

The track in question is a good example of why your arguement is wrong. On the Friday you posted this the track was at No.11 on Beatport's House Sales chart. A fine achievement for a small indie label competing against labels with bigger clout.

On Beatport the holy grail is to reach the Top 10 in your chosen genre as this is where you get the most exposure and it makes a huge difference to your overall sales. Since Friday the track hasn't made the jump to the Top 10 so didn't reach that extra level of exposure.

Now on this blog site the track has been downloaded over a hundred times. Whether you realise this or not a hundred downloads is a significant number. If these had occured as sales on Beatport then that would most certainly have been enough to see the track into the top 10.

If you still have your head in the sand you'll argue that these people wouldn't have downloaded the tracks in the first place. If you've got a conscience and a decent head on your shoulders then perhaps you'll realise that you are a part of the problem, however small.

Why not just remove the download links and replace them with a link to a store like beatport where you can buy the music? I can't see the motivation to do what you are doing right now. It's not like your some latter day Robin Hood. In effect your stealing from the poor (i.e. the artists and labels who I can assure you aren't making a fortune from dance music) to give to the lazy / greedy who won't dig into their pockets to pay a couple of quid for a track.

Perhaps it's time you had a rethink about what your doing Alex?

some very valid points, however I can't be held responsable for the actions of others.

If you take maxemusic's blog for example, it only encourages pure piracy with no room for feedback or any form of stimulation. There are plenty of other sites like that where 'music packs' are available. This does not excuse me but look at the comparison of hits. I do not strive to acheive popularity by being 'robin hood', nor do I advertise my blog using shameless tactics. This blog is for my own take on the best bits of the dance industry.

I must make clear that I do have friends who are making money in the Beatport charts and I for one buy all my music out of respect and understanding for all artists.

So out of appreciation for your concerns, I will post a link to purchase the material if it is available.

I hope that will satify you.

It's a small step in the right direction but I won't be in any way satisfied until you stop giving music away for free.

Despite your last post your reasons for doing this aren't clear. What is the motivation to specifically give away other people's music for free? If you genuinely want to give your own take on the music industry then write about the tracks, put up a 2min sample clip and link to the place to buy it. That's great promotion for the artists / labels and will gain you respect from them instead of abuse.

I think if your honest with yourself your motivation for putting up free tracks purely because it means more people will visit your site than if you didn't, not because it helps promote a track better. Not something to be proud of.

There's hope for you yet I think, it's just whether your big enough to step up and admit your in the wrong.

Firstly do you have a name, and secondly if you can't meet me half way and still wan't to make a fuss about morality then I question why do you come on here anyway?
